Stephen McKichan, B.S.Ed
Steve McKichan had a record-breaking career at Miami University (CCHA) before being drafted in the 2nd round of the NHL College entry draft by the Vancouver Canucks. During the 1990-91 season, he set a team IHL record with the Milwaukee Admirals for the fewest goals allowed in a season. This earned him a promotion to the big leagues and a ranking from The Hockey News as a top 5 prospect behind the only other goalie named, Dominik Hasek.

"I have coached a lot of pro goalies over the years, and I am sure that had Steve
not been injured, he would have been an NHL standout".

Steve McKichan - Vancouver Canucks     Despite his brilliant future, his career in the NHL ended after he played in his first regular season game vs. the New Jersey Devils. Steve was blind-sided with a vicious check 10 seconds after the play was whistled dead.

Never one to let obstacles stand in his way, Steve graduated from Miami University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education andSteve's Vancouver Away Jersey began teaching elementary school in Ontario. It was also at this time that he founded what has become the most popular full-time goalie school in Canada and the U.S. - Future Pro.

Detroit Vipers' Goalies, Rich Parent & Jeff Reese     From a coaching standpoint, Steve McKichan has experienced success at all levels from AAA to the NHL In fact, during the '96-'97 season, Steve coached the goaltenders with the Detroit Vipers (IHL). Not only did the Vipers win the Turner Cup Championship with the tandem of Rich Parent and Jeff Reese; they set goaltending records that are unlikely to be broken. That year, under Steve's guidance, the Vipers' goalies set the ALL-TIME record for the lowest goals against average in the history of the IHL! Prior to the 2003-2004 season, Steve was hired to coach Ed Belfour. After one season working with Belfour, Steve was officially hired on as the goaltending coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs. In Steve's first season as the Leafs' goalie coach, in 2003-2004, the team set an ALL-TIME record for points in a season and in the 2005-2006 season, they set an ALL-TIME record for home wins in a season. Under Steve's guidance, Ed Belfour set a Leaf record for wins in a season with 37. During his first season as Toronto Maple Leafs' goaltending coach, Todd Ford (rookie) was named to the ECHL All-Star game. Under Steve's guidance, Justin Pogge developed into the WHL MVP, Goaltender of the year in the CHL, and was a star player on the 2005-2006 Canadian World Junior Championship team. Todd Ford
